And the out-of-pocket cost for a person covered by insurance is very different than for someone without insurance.
As the patient, you want to know, "What are my out-of-pocket costs?" It's a great question that has a different answer for everyone who asks. Seek care in outpatient settings.
For radiology exams, ask your physician if they can be done at an outpatient facility, which is usually less expensive.
Ask to pay your share of the bill with a payment plan. Please keep in mind that an open balance has to be a minimum balance.

When you are treated by an out-of-network provider at an in-network facility, you are protected from balance billing. In these cases, you shouldn’t be charged more than your plan’s copayments, coinsurance and/or deductible.
Self-pay patients and those who are not using insurance have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any nonemergency items or services.
Make sure your healthcare provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before your medical item or service. You can ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider of your choice, to provide you with this estimate before you choose to schedule the item or service.
Make sure to save a copy of your Good Faith Estimate. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

Patients can choose where they go for their outpatient radiology services. That choice can save them hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars. Just as a patient can take a signed prescription to the pharmacy of their choosing, a patient can take their radiology order to the facility they prefer. We bill globally, meaning the technical fee and the radiologist’s fee for interpretation are both included in one bill.
If our facility is in-network with the patient’s insurance plan, the radiologist is also in-network with that patient’s plan.
